Since beginning my research of how to grow materials, I have been spending a lot of time reading and thinking about fungi. Its rapid growth rate makes it a top contender to be used for this purpose. It is also available in abundance as once some is removed, it can grow back to replace the loss! Certain strains of fungi can be incredibly strong, breaking through and covering not only soft animal cells, but also tougher wood particles and plant walls. One of the reasons for the rapid growth rate of fungi is because they can reproduce without a partner, single celled yeasts can produce up to 24 offspring, which could then produce 24 of their own, each… and so on!
