From 2001, targets were set for at least 50% of the UK’s packaging waste to be re-utilised through recycling and other recovery methods. The Scottish Government has a commitment to a zero waste Scotland. The Zero Waste plan outlines how we can increase levels of recycling and an overall reduction in the amount of waste we produce by the year 2020. The fact that plans have been in place from 2001, showing huge results so far, and set to continue through 2020 shows how big a sector the recycling industry has become. It is one of the most important factors that companies have to consider when branding, marketing, manufacturing and distributing. The public have become very interested in the background of their purchases; where it comes from, what its made from, who made it and where it will end up when they’re done with it.
